Maundy Thursday

Paula's Random Thoughts ...

What is Maundy Thursday?

Maundy Thursday, also called Holy Thursday, is a service to commemorate Jesus' Last Supper and the beginning of our sacrament, the Lord's Supper. The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment." At the Last Supper, Jesus gave the disciples a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34). Prior to breaking the bread with the disciples, Jesus washed their feet. Maundy Thursday worship services include Holy Communion and sometimes foot washing as well.

I had the opportunity to present at a Palmetto Health Easley Leadership conference in Clemson today. I was very excited to present, had never been to Clemson so that was interesting and was most impressed that the conference was started with a devotion centered around Maundy Thursday. PHE Chaplain did a wonderful job of bridging the gap between what happened on Holy Thursday and how we can relate as leaders. In someones eyes each of us serves as a leader ... be it in our jobs, in our homes, or with friends and other family members. A good leader should always be an even better Servant. Are you viewed as a Christian leader by those around you?
Just something to think about on this most important day.
